Making A Pivot. I have been invloved in the startup of 150+ companies and organizations?during the past 35+ years as either a founder, investor, advisor, executive or board member. During this time I have witnessed, advised?or participated in companies making a "pivot" in their strategy, mission, business model, or core purpose for existing. There are many reasons such a dramatic tranformation takes place but usually it?is critical for an organization's continued growth or even?survival.
During the past 6 year and 12 weeks of writing his blog my primary focus has been on healthcare--- the industry, people,?trends, news, and my musings about it impact on the world. After recently experiencing the "inside" or "under cover" operations of our current health care system (see previous blog post regarding CPR) I am pivoting this blog to reflect the broader interests in my observations of the world and how people are making a positive IMPACT.
Mission: I am creating this blog as a forum to share how individuals are ?making a positive impact on the world?. It is a topic I have been interested in for decades and now I am formally going to document and capture specific stories, insights and perhaps an occasional inspiration efforts people are making to positively change the world around them. ?
I have been fortunate to have been alive during the era when communications methods, tools and mechanism have been invented and grown exponentially during my 52 years. During the first decade of my lifetime the pen, teletype, typewriter, radio, telephone, fax, computer and television were commonly used and the primary modes of communications between individuals.
During the most recent decade into the 21st Century the invention and improvement of these legacy communications have morphed into faster, cheaper and better modes of interacting with people globally. The advent and acceleration of the digital age means we are now able to instantly communicate our thoughts, interests, actions and conduct commerce using communications mechanisms and tools such as the Internet, mobile computers and Smartphone devices to have ?Instant Impact?. This is not only to those people living in our immediate local communities, but across the world, transcending time zones, geographic and political barriers.
One recent example of how individuals are making an impact is the recent ?Arab Spring? uprisings in Algeria, Egypt, Libya and Syria. ?Ordinary? individuals have been using and leveraging ?modern? communications via such social media platforms as Twitter, Facebook, and others to make a positive change. It is almost unthinkable that such a convergence of political upheaval, communications devices, connected social media communities and individual courage to risk their lives could result in the over throw of tyrants, dictators and depots who had been in political power of 20 or 40 years.
Although these are political examples on the power of individuals making a positive impact recently, I am equally looking forward to sharing specific examples of individuals who have and are making a positive impact on the world in the areas of science, technology, business, arts, entertainment, medicine and all industries.
Feel free to ping me via Twitter (see bleow) about an inspiring individual you think I should profile in the future.
